What it Means to be a Responsible Waste Remover
In the latest figures released by the Office of National Statistics, there were one million fly-tipping incidents in England between 2017-2018, with an average of more than 2,700 incidents reported a day.
Fly-tipping and rogue traders cause huge concerns for construction companies, as they are often posing as legitimate waste removal businesses, when in fact the waste can be left in residential areas and contaminate the environment.
These rogue traders put construction companies at huge risks of fines and jail sentences, which means finding a responsible and certified waste remover has never been so critical when managing large scale construction projects.
As a responsible waste remover, at AJ Grab Hire we believe it’s important you understand what to look out for when you hire a company to support you in removing waste responsibility.
After all, as a company working in the construction or building sector, you have to ensure the waste removers you partner with will manage your waste effectively and reduce the environmental impact of waste. Â
Certified by the Environment Agency
At AJ Grab Hire we are licensed by the Environment Agency to collect, recycle and dispose of all types of waste. This includes muck, commercial waste, earth, soil, timber, green waste, and domestic waste.
Any company who is registered with the Environment Agency such as ourselves will hold a registration number which can be checked online on the Environment Agency’s portal.
As well as providing you with this registration number, at any site we will also provide a waste transfer note. This explains where the waste is being collected from, and where it will be disposed of.
Working in Partnership
Any certified and responsible waste remover will work with a network of waste solution providers.
At AJ Grab hire we work with many waste partners so that we can segregate materials and ensure we reduce the amount of waste going into landfill. This gives you the peace of mind that your waste is being handled responsibly and is being managed in an environmentally friendly manner.
When you work with us, we will provide proof of where your waste was taken, and provide an official weight ticket which identifies the disposal site.
Reducing Landfill Â
According to WRAP, 25 million tonnes of construction waste is disposed to landfill in the UK. This accounts for 33% of waste and generates 45% of all CO2 emissions.
As waste and sustainability are becoming key concerns for those working in the construction and building sector, it’s becoming more important for companies to work with waste removal partners that understand the demands of reducing the impact of waste.
Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP’s) have gone a long way to tackling the waste produced in the sector by reducing waste, using materials in a better way and ensuring waste is collected for recycling.
As responsible waste removers, we support our clients in meeting their SWMP’s by ensuring that we segregate waste and take different materials to dedicated recycling plants.
Waste shouldn’t need to be a concern for site managers, contact our team today to find out how we can support your project in being waste responsible.
